  1. Almost all the glitter polishes is hard to get off! I heard of some method to soak a cotton ball in polish remover put on the nail and wrap with foil, wait couple minutes and it come off easy...It works but does it ruins the nails, skin???

    1. Rina you are correct the glitter polish is extremely difficult to remove. Make sure you are using pure acetone to remove the polish. Some of these "non-acetone" polishes will not do the trick. Soaking a cotton ball in acetone and wrapping it aroudn your nailbed would probably help dissolve the polish better but I wouldn't advise it. Acetone is breaks down the keratin in the nails and weakens them.

    2. Thank you, I usually use non acetone removers, thinking they better for nails...not so toxic or something ;)

  2. Every now and then, I notice a cluster of these tiny white dots under one of my nails when I remove my nail polish. Is this anything to be alarmed about?

    1. Bonny my dear you have nothing to worry about. The white dots you see on your nails is called Leukonychia pronounced (loo-ko-nik-ee-ah) it is caused by air bubbles, a bruise or other injury to the nail. Leukonychia cannot be correct but it will grow out with your nail.

  3. What is the best top coat and procedure to use to avoid chipping? I have tried them all but my nails still chip quickly! I can't afford gel though. Thanks for the help.

    1. LeeAnne the best top coat I have found is Seche Vite it is my absolute favorite of all the brands on the market today. Giving each coat adequate time to dry will help the chipping as well. Half way through the week after a brand new manicure I tell my clients to give their nails a fresh coat of top coat to refresh the look and help protect the polish. NEVER EVER put more than 5 coats of polish on your nails at any time. Too many coats will cause the polish to lift and peel. If you cannot find Seche Vite top coat I can order it for you and have it shipped to your home. Just PM me on my page.

  5. What are some good ingredients to look for in a cuticle balm?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I honestly do not spend a ton of money on cuticle creams or balms because they really are no different than you using hand cream or Neosporin if your cuticles are ripping. Cuticles rip because they are dry so each night before you go to bed take some hand cream and rub it into your cuticles. If they are growing (mine do and I have no choice but to trim them) and you are not comfortable trimming them yourself have a manicurist do them for you. Treat yourself to a manicure it's cheap therapy that what I always say.

  6. What is a good technique for getting nail polish to stay on slick nails? My nail polish always starts chipping the first day even if I put a top coat on.

    1. Ashley the first thing that comes to mind when you say your polish is not adhering to your nails is that you are not prepping them first. Any residue left on the nail before polishing will inhibit the polish from adhering properly. Make sure you strip the nail before you polish. Even some soaps leave reside on the nailbed and that is not good. They do sell products to prep the nail for polishing but I think if you strip the nail with pure acetone (nail polish remover) make absolutely sure the only ingredient is acetone some of them include fragrance, etc. I think you will notice a difference. If not I can recommend a professional nail prep you can try. Just do not put too many layers of polish.

  7. I am afraid of pushing back my cuticles myself - they don't seem to really grow up my nails anyhow. Is it still important to get them nudged or not? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is not necessary to push back or cut your cuticles if they do not grow, mine do unfortunately and I have no choice but to trim them constantly or they inhibit the growth of my nails. If you need them trimmed and you are uncomfortable with trimming them yourself then I suggest you treat yourself to a nice manicure from time to time.

  9. How long do you wait to paint a second coat of nail polish onto your nails? Even when I think it is dry, when I apply the second coat it always ruins the whole nail look. Also when I apply the second coat and wait for it to dry, I feel like that final drying time never comes either! Thank you

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Jolene the first thing that comes to mind is that you are applying the polish too thick this would cause the second coat to get weird on you. Apply a thin coat first, give it about 5 minutes and then put the 2nd coat on a wee bit thicker. Pitch old nail polish it could be your issued. You can only get about 3 or 4 applications out of a bottle today before they start to get thick. Unfortunately you may have to pitch the bottle before it is empty. Use a good brand of polish too, the dollar store type is not recommended.

  10. what is the best way to prep my feet for a pedi at home

    ReplyDelete

    1. Nothing special just soak them long enough (about 15 minutes) to soften the dead skin on the bottom of your feet and around your cuticles to make it easier to trim it.

  11. Every time I do my nails the next morning they look like they have had cotton balls applied to them before the paint dried. Even if it has been several hours after the polish was applied. It is due to a crummy top coat or crummy polish? Could the polish be old? What is the shelf life of polish?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Julia never ever paint your nails at night - I have made the same mistake and woke up with the design of my bedspread on my nails LOL. It takes hours for nail polish to set even though it may look dry to you. Yes the polish could be old, I recommend that people pitch their nail polish after 12 months. I pitch mine after 6 months of use because it starts to get thick and you can only thin it so many times before it breaks down the consistency of the polish.

    1. Miss Debbie Price - not when I do your nails LOL. It depends Deb there are a lot of factors that can affect the life of a polish job. Some people can get an entire 7 days out of a manicure and others can only get a few. You have to protect your new manicure with rubber gloves when cleaning and washing dishes and put a second coat of top coat on the 3rd day after the manicure is done. Polish brands can affect that as well. You know I cannot use OPI on myself it just won't stay on my nails. That is why I adore Zoya so much lasts an entire week on me. Happy Dance!

  27. I have been using the Cuccio Forte Nail Strengthener for a little over a month, but I don't think I'm using it correctly. Do I periodically remove it? It seems like it gets thick and starts chipping off (near the cuticle), it appears my nails are growing since there is empty space that isn't painted with the strengthener near my cuticles, but my nails don't seem to be growing (getting longer) or getting stronger-they are still splitting, cracking, and breaking. I have to keep cutting my nails when they split, so they don't completely break off down past my finger. I can post a picture if necessary. PS: I use no other nail polishes on top either, just the strengthener. Thanks!!

  28. Hope in all my years of selling this product and the thousands of bottles I have sold and given away I have never had anyone tell me it didn't work miracles for them. I am truly shocked. Unless you are abusing your nails (using harsh cleaners and not protecting them with rubber gloves) I truly believe your problem is coming from a medical issue. Here are a few that I can think of right off the top of my head, a thyroid condition can make your nails weak, split and peel, it used to happen with my mom. Taking certain medications can cause problems with your nails as well. The other thing that comes to mind is a vitamin deficiency. Vitamin H (Biotin)
Biotin or vitamin H is actually a member of the B-complex family, which your body cannot store, but it can be manufactured by bacteria that live in your intestines. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, a deficiency of biotin is rare but can occur if your nutrient absorption is impaired by illness or medication. Biotin is needed to keep your skin, fingernails and hair healthy and a deficiency is characterized by thinning and splitting of your hair. Biotin deficiency can also cause poor nail growth and brittle nails. You can get biotin supplements at your local health food store. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends that adults 19 and older take 30 mcg of biotin daily.

I suggest that you discuss this with your doctor the next time you have a visit with him or her. I hope this helps.
