Jessica Cosmetics Indie Fest Collection Review!

Disclosure: I received a sample (as described below) to conduct my review for this blog post.  All opinions stated in this post are truthful and mine alone.  Receiving a sample(s) of this product in no way influenced my opinion in this review.

As a licensed manicurists I have the ability to choose any polish or gel polish brand or brands on the market today.  If you ask any manicurist I am sure they will tell you we all have our favorite brands, colors, applications, etc.
I have been in this industry for 15 years and have tried almost every brand of polish from the designer high end most expensive ones to the drug store brands and I have my favorites for several reasons.
I will tell you that the cheaper the polish the less effective they will be in lasting on your nails but that doesn’t mean you have to spend $25 on a bottle of designer polish to get great results.  That’s why I love the complete line of JESSICA products they are reasonably priced.
I evaluate a polish by the following criteria:
  1. Ease of applications
  2. How long it lasts
  3. Selection of colors available
Over the years I really haven’t changed my opinions of my favorite brands and JESSICA is on the top of my list.
They are at the cutting edge of trend colors, their polish is reasonably priced and lasts up to 14 days depending on whether or not you take care of your manicure.
Now there are many factor’s that will effect your polish condition as the days go on but if you take care and pamper your hands you can get up to two weeks out of a good professional nail polish.
I always recommend using rubber gloves when your nails are polished to do household chores.  Chemicals and water will reek havoc on your polish and manicure.  I know many people do not like to wear them but it is really important to protect not just your manicure but your hands in general from harsh chemicals.
JESSICA brand polish, gel polishes and treatments can be found on their website at www.jessicacosmetics.com
With 250 classic and trend-setting shades, and a variety of finishes in Creme, Frost, Glitter, High Shine, Metallic, Matte, Opalescent, and Sheer you are going to find something you LOVE!
All JESSICA polishes are 7-Free: No Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DBP, Camphor, Xylene or Ethyl Tosylamide – cheap drug store brands many still continue these harmful chemicals that can cause cancer.
This is one of the newest collections from JESSICA called “Indie Fest” and the colors are amazing.
I choose “Desert Sun” to show you as it doesn’t do the color justice in the box.  It’s a beautiful golden brown with miniature gold flecks – just beautiful!

To purchase the IndyFest collection or any other JESSICA brand product go to www.jessicacosmetics.com

Ella + Mila Polsih Review

Disclosure: I received a sample (as described below) to conduct my review for this blog post.  All opinions stated in this post are truthful and mine alone.  Receiving a sample(s) of this product in no way influenced my opinion in this review.

I received this beautiful package of goodies from the kind folks at ella + mila.  It contained the follow products: Soy Polish Remover, Matte Top Coat, five (5) beautiful colors, and two beautiful velvet matte liquid lipsticks.  I love them all. As many of you know I am a licensed manicurist and often have the opportunity to receive samples of nail polish and other nail products.  I welcome the opportunity to feature a new brand especially one that I really like. There are so many brands of polish on the market today my head spins.  Most of them are easily recognizable by their name or bottle shape.  The more popular ones such as OPI, Essie, China Glaze, are not my favorite brands.

As a professional I have tried them all and although most are pretty comparable in price and wear I have my favorites. I must admit I had not heard of the brand until it popped up on my social media feed.  Since I am not currently working in the industry new brands tend to slip by me since I am not exposed to new products on a daily basis. With a passion for color and dedication to healthy beauty, the founders of ella + mila strive to provide fashion-forward beauty products without compromise.  In addition to being chip-resistant, quick-dry and high-shine, ella+mila nail colors contain no Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP), Xylene or Camphor, making it a seven chemical-free product. ella+mila polishes are vegan and animal cruelty free. I use a few criteria factors when testing out new nail products.  When it comes to polish, I want it to go on evenly, how quickly it drys and how long it lasts.  Now I will tell you I beat up my polish by typing all day long so there are times it doesn't even last me a week but I wear gloves when I do dishes and try my best to make it last.

I decided to use "Cool Crush" for my demonstration.  It's a beautiful pink that reminds me of watermelon.  Who doesn't love watermelon?  The polish went on smoothly and covered evenly and dried very quickly.  I really like the applicator brush as it is not thick and width like some companies have now incorporated into their packaging.  I don't have much control over a thick brush, it doesn't leave much room for error.  I prefer a thinner brush.

If you go to the ella + mila website you will see all the wonderful colors and collections they have to offer. https://www.ellamila.com/ Use code RBR15 for 15% OFF at the checkout. With a texture for all your many moods ella + mila comes in Duochrome, Glitter, Jelly, Matte, Metallic, Neon, Pearl and Shimmer. I really like the ella + mila duo's - matching polish and lip color in one box.  They did all the work matching the colors perfectly for you us enjoy.  See the entire line of duo's here!

They also have a line called "Mommy & Me" polish for mommy and your little princess.  The children's polish is safe as it contains no Formaldehyde, Toluene, DiButyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, TPHP, Xylene.  Check the website for the entire lime of "Mommy & Me" polishes here!

Cuccio Super 7 Second Reactive Top Coat Review and Giveaway!

This Cuccio Colour collection is my new favorite nail polish.  It dries incredibly fast and even the opaque colors go on without streaks.  You gotta check this collection and all the Cuccio nail colors out.

The kind folks at Cuccio (my absolute favorite nail products company) were kind enough to send me this box of goodies.  When it arrived I was overjoyed to try some old favorites (as well as some new so to be favorites) and I am having a blast trying each and every one of them.  Some I was very familiar with as I have used and recommended them for years and others are new to me so I will give you all an honest opinion of the new to me products. I fell in love with this company and their products when I graduated from cosmetology school. They were the only company that was willing to send me samples of their products to try. I wanted to try as many product lines as possible so that I could give my honest opinion to my clients in recommending the good from the bad and Cuccio was the only company that was willing to send me anything.  I have never forgotten that.

There are so many nail products on the market today that it's hard to tell which are good and which are not so good.  As a licensed manicurist I want to try every new product that comes out so that I can give my honest opinion to my clients and whether or not to recommend it. I have NOT found a Cuccio product that didn't do what it claims.  The Cuccio company is all about the "health" of your nails where most companies are only worried about their bottom dollar. This company truly cares and does not mass product thousands of products in their line.  It is a small company with a small line of amazing products.  They have been consistent (for as long as I have been dealing with them) in only manufacturing products that are beneficial to your body and nails. This is why I love it so much. This is a company with a consciences. You all know about my love affair with Cuccio Forte Nail Strengthener and many of you have purchased this product from me after seeing the amazing results I personally have with this product time after time in growing long strong nails. It continues to be my number one product recommendation for over ten (10) years now and I've yet to have a client tell me it hasn't transformed their nails from horrible to healthy. Cuccio makes a limited number of products which cane me found on their website for viewing.  Unfortunately to purchase from them you must be a licensed professional. If you see any product in this review that appeals to you contact me and I can order it for you and have it shipped directly to your home. The nail polish collection you see in the photo above is from Cuccio's Positivity Collection.  New for spring these beautiful colors look good enough to eat but please don't they are eye candy for your fingers and toes only! Click on the links below for each individual color and it will bring up a much larger photo so you can appreciate how wonderful these colors truly are.

New to me is Cuccio's Super 7 Second Reactive Top Coat.  However after trying this product it is now my new go-to top coat.  Although it did take a little longer to dry than 7 seconds with my test, it dried in less than one minute, which is a lot faster than any other top coat I have used in the past.  I have prepared a little video demonstration so you can see how quickly it actually dried on my nails. Cuccio Nail Solutions Professional Super 7 Second Reactive Top Coat is a super quick drying formula that is redefining the way in which you protect your nail color. It creates a high gloss finish with incredible long-lasting durability. It contains photo initiators and fast acting monomers that react with natural light to set-up super fast. Super 7 seals in color by creating a coating that is second to none.

About the company: Mr. Anthony Cuccio, Founder, President, CEO and Roberta Cuccio, Senior Vice President, COO of Star Nail International based in Valencia, California are true visionaries and trendsetters in the beauty industry today. The entrepreneurial couple literally built their business out of a suitcase of cosmetics in 1981 on Venice Beach, California. The business has grown into a multi-million dollar global corporation making the firm the largest nail and beauty product manufacturer in the world  In 1986, Star Nail achieved the ultimate recognition making INC. 500 and making “Entrepreneur of the Year.”  In 1999 they founded “Cuccio Naturale” the first natural nail, hand and foot care treatment product line. Created from Mr. Cuccio’s personal experience, his Italian background and visits to Italy, he developed products that enhance and beautify clients worldwide. Today, Cuccio Naturale is used in top spas, day spas and salons throughout the world.

Just a note about products. Dr. Oz did an entire show the other day about FAKE products. I tell people all the time when you buy from places like discount stores and ebay you just never know what you are getting.  Salon's save empty bottles of product (including nail products) and sell them to second class salon's who fill them with fake and inferior product.  This is illegal and not safe for you.  Please comment to me all the time that their polish just doesn't last when they have their manicure doing at a "strip mall" type salon - reason being - the polish in that bottle you think is a name brand product may very well be fake.  Just because it's in a name brand bottle there is no guarantee you are getting what's on the label.  As a licensed professional my product comes directly from the manufacturer or a authorized reseller ONLY. This is the case with my Cuccio Forte Nail Strengthener and any other product I sell.  For more information or to purchase Cuccio Forte Nail Strengthener (the miracle in a bottle) go here  ------> Buy Cuccio

Durilaq No Light Cure Gel Review - O Sole Mia

There are many brands of gel polish on the market today, so many brands, that it can get confusing which to chose.  As a licensed manicurist I try to be open to any and all the brands being sold from the high end to the drug store brands.  The newest products, from some well known brands, require no LED light curing.  These are extremely convenient especially for the do-it-yourselfer who doesn't want to go to the salon every week or two to have their polish changed. I recently received a bottle of Durilaq (from the makers of Duri Polish) a non-LED light curing gel polish in O Sole Mia (a beautiful red) to test.  I was sent one polish and one top coat. No base coat is required just two coats of Durilaq color and one coat of Durilaq Top Coat and you're ready to go. The instructions recommends that you wait two minutes in between polish coats to allow it to dry.

I wanted to really give the polish a work out and see exactly how long it would last under every day use.  I use my hands all day long to type, clean, and prepare meals for my family so I knew it would be an excellent test for the brand.

The color I received (O Sole Mia) is one of eight colors in the collection.  As you can see below the colors are beautiful and there has to be one or more that appeals to you.   Just like all the other Duri products Durilaq is "5 free" which means it is free of :
  • CAMPHOR: In rare cases, camphor can cause liver damage when applied to skin. And nail biters be warned— it’s been linked to seizures when ingested.
  • DIBUTYL PHTHALATE: An endocrine disruptor, dibutyl phthalate is toxic to the reproductive system, and can effect a baby boy’s genitalia development. Plus, it’s been linked to obesity.
  • FORMALDEHYDE: A known carcinogen that can also cause organ and immune system toxicity, formaldehyde is an ingredient to avoid at all costs.
  • FORMALDEHYDE RESIN: This formaldehyde derivative may not be as toxic, but it’s a known allergen, and can cause skin irritations, as well as eye and lung irritation (and we know we all inhale some nail-polish fumes when we’re swiping on color).
  • TOLUENE: Toluene not only impairs breathing and can cause nausea, but it’s also toxic to the nervous system, can cause developmental damage to a fetus and is linked to malignant lymphoma.
These cancer causing agents can be very harmful to your body and no matter which brand you choose as a Licensed Manicurist I always recommend my clients choose a polish brand like Duri that is free of these chemicals.

Durilaq and Duri Polishes can be purchased at https://duri.com - check out all the Duri and Durilaq colors available!

Duri Voyage Diva Collection

duridiva

I had the pleasure of receiving the Duri Voyage Diva Summer Collection of nail polishes for review.  As many of you know I am a licensed manicurist although I am not currently working.  That being said I love to stay current with trade publications and nail trends so that if I decide to return to work some day I will be up to date on all that is current in the nail industry. Duri is one of my favorite nail polish lines for many reasons.  The most important features for me in choosing a line of polish (to use personally and to recommend) is if it stays on and wears well over an extended period of time and that the company stays innovative with products and collections - Duri covers all that and more for me. The Voyage Diva Summer Polish Collection is a wonderful rainbow of amazing colors that will not disappoint - I love them all! There are twelve colors in the collection - Rio Rager (a beautiful creamy orange), Fairytale Prague (a misty light lilac), Azure Isle (a medium pastel blue), Mallorca Mauve (a light pinkish mauve), Tahitian Sand (a creamy off white), When In Rome (a light pastel blue), Aussie Gold Coast (a pale creamy yellow), London Calling (a chalk white great for french manicures), Marrakech Magic (a pale mint green), Maui Wawie (a medium pink), Trending in NY (a pale baby pink), and Weekend In Dubai (a pale lemon-lime green). I choose "Trending In NY" to demonstrate.  I just love this color so much I took it with me to the spa and had them use it for my pedicure.

As you can all see my nails are very short lately.  The medications I am taking has greatly affected the health of my nails and for this reason I have had  no choice but to keep them short.  However these pastel colors look amazing on short or longer nails. This collection and others as well as single bottles are available directly from the Duri website.  The polish is a wonderful value at only $6.00 per bottle.  That's up to a $4.00 saving over other brands being sold today. Check out the entire line of Duri products here!  Enjoy free shipping on orders of $35.00 or more!

Duri Polish Revel In Luxury Review and Contest!

durirevel

As many of you know I am a licensed manicurist and I am blessed to receive samples for review from some nail polish companies.  Over the years it has gotten more difficult to get them unless you are a "nail blogger" which I am not so my friends at Duri are one of the few companies that continue to send me their new nail polish collections.  Duri is one of these companies that I endorse as I love their innovative polish colors with every new collection. This is the latest collection from Duri called Revel In Luxury and it does not disappoint. Most brands of polish at this size bottle are up to $10.00 per bottle but Duri remains at $6.00 per bottle which is a great value. The collection consists of 12 amazing colors.  I only received 6 of the 12 so I can only speak on them at this time.  The others look just as amazing on the Duri Website so you can see them here! I received Au Moment, Oh My Stars, Paint The Town, Feeling Beautiful, Revel In Luxury and Chic Chick and I love them all.

Okay no judging the manicuring skills I just put the colors on so you could get an idea of what they actually look like on the nails.

Fabulous Pedicure Tip

A manicurist friend taught me this years ago and it works I'm not joking. In the cold winter weather you don't have to walk around with flip flops on when you get a pedicure - just put plastic wrap over your painted toes and then put your shoes or boots back on. I'm not joking it works. Now you have to give them at least 5 minutes to set and then you are good to put the plastic wrap. I don't know why it works but it works.

durisummer

As many of you know I am a licensed manicurist so I am blessed to have been asked to review this amazing Duri Spring/Summer collection.

Choose from colors like Windy City Roar, NYC Apple Envy, The O.C. Orange, Viva Strip Tease, Austin City Lites, DC Power Play, Baton Rouge Blues, Berry Boston Strong, Charleston Red, Sobe Soleil, Memphis Mint and Brooklyn Wine Bar!  One more amazing than the next. Each individual bottle sells for $6.00 and are available at www.duri.com

These beautiful colors are like an Easter basket for your nails.  I choose Baton Rouge Blues to demonstrate how amazing these colors are.

I found this polish to be a one-coat wonder.  Yes that is only one coat on my nails and as you can see the coverage is amazing.  Now not all of the collection can be accomplished with just one coat but all of the opaque colors certainly can.  Some are matte finish other have a glossy glow so you get the best of both worlds in this collection. Keep in mind that Duri nail products are environmentally friendly and free from DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde.

Two (2) lucky Rosey The Coupon Coach or Nail Girls Manicure Mondays (this is my other blog) fans will have the chance to win a set of (3) of these beautiful Duri nail colors each.

Duri Nail Polish Review - 12 Shares of Desire!

As many of you know I am a licensed manicurist in the State of New Jersey.  Although I am not actively working at this time in a salon I do keep up with the latest trends and products through professional publications I receive on a monthly basis.  I also give free manicures to my friends and family to keep up my skills.

So when the folks at Duri asked me to review their "12 Shades of Desire" collection inspired by the movie "50 Shares of Grey" slated for release this February, I was thrilled.

The company describes this collection as "12 distinct color hues, including intimate soft neutrals, bold take charge brights, dark sultry hues, sensual shimmers and a few shades of green with envy."
  • Amoretto
  • Pie In The Sky Green
  • My Darling
  • Parisien Tango
  • Tatiana
  • Playboy Bunny
  • Ice and Desire
  • Sensual Delight
  • Hot Ice
  • Runaway Bride
  • Undisclosed Desires
  • Grey Area

Although the photo at the top of this post does not do these colors justice, each is unique and beautiful in it's own way, you will love them all.  I had a very hard time deciding which one to choose to show you in my actual photo.

(And yes I chopped off all my nails, stop crying they will grow back in no time flat!)

This is "Undisclosed Desires" don't you just love it?  This polish goes on like a dream smooth and coats evenly (a manicurists worst nightmare, polishes that streak and are very hard to blend.)

Duri nail polish sells for $6.00 per.  You can purchase all 12 shades in this collection at the Duri's website or at a retailer in your area that carries Duri nail products.

Disclosure: I received a sample (as described above) to conduct my review for this blog post.  All opinions stated in this post are truthful and mine alone.  Receiving sample(s) of this product in no way influenced my opinion in this review.

Sanitation in the salon - my magazine article!

Sanitation In The Salon
© Roseann Giannone

How to get a safe manicure or pedicure by Roseann Giannone.

There has been much written in newspapers, magazines and on the nightly news recently about the dangers one can face while getting a manicure or pedicure in the salon today.  Unsanitary conditions can cause serious health complications including infections and fungus, but educated consumers can safeguard themselves from these dangers.

Sanitation is the most important thing to consider when making the choice on which salon or spa to choose for your manicure or pedicure service. Of course you want to choose a salon and service provider that will give you a wonderful service but more importantly you want to choose a salon that will provide a safe and clean environment. Choose a salon that has a good reputation in your community.  You can always ask friends and family members for a recommendation or call a local cosmetology school for a recommendation.  Remember a cheap service is not always your best choice.  The reason some salons are able to charge such inexpensive prices on their services is because they are reusing disposable implements numerous times which puts you at risk.

You can participate in the safe sanitation process by bringing your own implements and disposable products.  You will not insult your service provider by bringing your own tools.  You can invest in a cuticle nipper, nail clipper, disposable orangewood sticks, disposable block buffers and disposable nail files.  The cost of bringing your own disposables is minimal and worth the expense for peace of mind.

There are two types of block buffers, nail files and foot files. Some are one-time use supplies and others can be used several times only after they have been properly sanitized. Most reputable salons and spas use sanitizible foot files.  These files are scrubbed with a hospital grade disinfectant or placed in a machine called an Autoclave which sanitizes with heat after each use.

Unfortunately for the lay person it would be difficult to know which are one-time use products and which are sanitizible so it is best to use this general rule.

Sanitized tools are (metal pusher, cuticle nippers, nail clippers some foot files.)

Disposable products are (orangewood stick, nail file and block buffer.) Disposable block buffers, nail files and orangewood stick should never be used more than one time on a customer.  They are a breeding ground for bacteria and infection.

If your salon is reusing these implements it should be a RED FLAG for you as the consumer.  It is not recommended that these items be reused ever.  A properly sanitized reusable block buffer, foot file or nail file will be clean and look as thought it has never been used. If your salon uses disposable supplies they should provide you with a new nail file, block buffer and foot file at each service. These should either be disposed of after your service or given to the customer to take home.  Reusing these one-time disposable supplies will put you at risk for infection.

Never allow anyone to use a callus planer on your feet. This is the product that has a razor blade attached to it with a handle. These are against the law in the state of NJ.  They are very dangerous and can easily cause serious harm and infection.  At this point in time no salon in the state of New Jersey should be using a callus planer; if they are you may want to rethink your decision to continue using their services.

Tub sanitation is as important as tool sanitation.  Your salon and service provider should be sanitizing the pedicure tub after each service with a hospital grade disinfecting solution.   If they are not sanitizing and disinfecting after each service you are at risk of serious harm.

How can you tell if your service provider or salon is adhering to the NJ state regulations regarding sanitation and disinfecting - by asking the service provider or the salon owner. Don’t be afraid to ask questions of the salon owner or service provider.

You should see the service provider clean the pedicure tub after the last patron leaves and before your service begins.  If not, you have every right to demand that it is cleaned and sanitized property.  At the end of the day the salon owner or service provider should be thoroughly sanitizing the pedicure tub with a process we call “backwashing.”  The pedicure tub is filled with a hospital grade disinfecting solution and the hottest water and run for at least 15 minutes (or according to the manufacturer’s instructions.)  Once the backwash is complete they should rinse the tub with clean water and dry the tub with a clean towel.  If your salon is using household bleach as a disinfecting solution you are not safe from containments.  Household bleach is not an effective agent for disinfecting and sanitizing any implements or salon equipment.  It will not kill the live bacteria that are present in most pedicure tubs or spas.

I hope that these suggestions will help you make an informed decision when you are choosing to have your next nail service.

Jessica Cosmetics Coral Symphony Collection Review!

Introducing the Jessica Coral Symphony Collection:  Ocean Bloom, Sharktooth, Tropical Sunset, Monsoon Mellon, Starfish Glow and Conch Shell!

I decided to give myself a nice manicure yesterday and explore these wonderful new Jessica polishes.

I have to tell you opaque polishes have to be the most difficult challenge I face as a professional manicurist. If your strokes are not perfect and even your polish job is one big mess.  Believe me I have had to re-polish many customers over the years but I have to tell you that I did not experience this with Jessica's new Coral Symphony collection. The polish is slightly thicker than most and evenly covered my nails with one coat.  Now I don't advise you to use only one coat (2 coats of color is always recommended) but I was so impressed at the even coverage I received from this polish that you could actually only apply one color coat.

The colors are absolutely yummy - they remind me of pastel colors of Easter and that could be what they had in mind when they developed this collection.  Bright, cheerful colors that make you smile.  I choose Ocean Bloom to showcase on my nails (see below) and it is just beautiful.

The Jessica collection can be found at your local salon (check here salon finder http://www.jessicacosmetics.com/locator/index.php) or can be purchased at the Jessica Cosmetics website http://www.jessicacosmetics.com/miva/merchant.mvc?

Jessica polishes are all Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP free!

Each polish retails for $8.40.

Be sure to start your Jessica manicures with Jessica "Reward" basecoat and finish with Jessica "Brilliance" high gloss topcoat. These are also available for purchase at a salon near you or directly from the Jessica Cosmetics website at the link above.

The winner will have 48 hours from the time the name is announced to claim their prize - no exceptions so be sure you check the email account that you use for the contest.

ALSO - if you are going to post a comment anonymously you need to leave some way for me to contact you if you are the winner.  I am not clairvoyant sorry!
